You read this and you are sure that you have finally found the new saviour of Power Metal! Think again, as it may not yet be the case. "Wasteland", second album of TWILIGHT GUARDIANS, adds nothing to the style, although maybe few moments here and there. "Search For Grace", with its black vocal lines and its mixed tempo is practically the only attempt to a new Power Metal sound and this is more than welcome! This where the style need to go; bands know how to do it, it just feels like they are cutting the corners, that they tend to rely on Power Metal templates, to jump as fast as they can on the style band wagon. Sound wise though; there is nothing to complain about. Mikko Karmila (NIGHTWISH, THERION and countless others) has nothing to worry about; the sound he gave to the band is flawless. Huge, epic and heavy, he did yet again a miracle with a somehow weak material. Is this really an unconditional need in your already overcrowded Power Metal collection? No. You’re new to the style? Well, that is a different story, as this may be a good initiation to the marvellous world of Power Metal. This band brings good ideas, but overshadowed it with flavourless typical Power Metal riffs. This kind of reviews are the worst to do; what in the world makes TWILIGHT GUARDIANS more deserving than other clones of getting this kind of bad review? Well, I guess the message really needs to be got. The talent is present, there is nothing to say about the performance of all the band members and although many efforts have been put in this record, this style is sadly becoming impossible to be taken seriously. The limits of Melodic and Neoclassical Metal are reached. Bands must rethink the overall approach of Power Metal song writing. Labels actions of signing too many bands in the same style do anything good to the Metal scene, but that suits better for a complete article than a review of a band that tries hard to gain some success, which, honestly, we understand, although this may not be the best way to obtain it.
