I sampled this disc and took a chance and was very surprised at the quality of this sacd. This is my first purchase of any groove note sacd's and will not be my last.

This album was originally recorded in 1978 with four excellent jazz players. Classical guitar, sax, drums and bass and its all great stuff. Nice solo's in the 70's sort of way. There is also an intimate quality to the recording that is charming.

There is a difference to the recording process with this disc. Most sacd's are either minted from tapes or recorded live via dsd. But the actual recording was direct to disc with no master tapes in between. The sound is amazingly life-like and very clean. The sound of the direct to disc recording does sound different when compared to tapes. While the sound is very immediate it is also more reserved in some ways and a little laid back. Some believe that magnetic tape is far more dense and can hold much more information than a small record groove. Still the sound is wonderful.

All things said...this is a beautiful sacd with great albeit slightly different sound. Some may not notice the difference so dont be concerned with my comments. Its a five star release with no reservations. From start to finish I can say that every song is a winner and the sax playing is magnificent.
