Seasons are changing... "I was the dreamweaver but now I'm reborn"? Olch?

I would disagree, at least not all of them. Check out Judas Priest remasters fro example, they made a good job with a sound transfer. However, some were done careless like ELP or Focus. But it's also a question of personal taste and preference Now, very important! As I mentioned before, K2HD = XRCD2 (for US it's called like that), which is what a lot of audiophile classic/jazz records tend to use. Look here: http://store.acousticsounds.com/category.cfm?id=31 A lot of these records are recommended by audiophiles, and some have superb mastering. So you really need to give it a listen before generalizing like that And finally, this release is NOT K2HD, it's 20bitK2, which is a BIG difference |

oh..well...'A lie repeated a thousand times becomes the truth' (Goebbels) Of course that there are some good K2HDs copies..i guess..., but i don't trust in the new generation masters...
Really??..i don't see that...as far i can see almost ALL new mastering, no matters label, uses 20 (oldest) and 24 bit technology...with dithering, noise shaping, no-jitter, or btw...but no matter to me if all of these complains with the Loudness War... ...hence this is all marketing to me and nothing improve to sound..
Yes?...well give me the threads of the better K2HD remaster and the better 'old flat' master of same disc too to compare... ..i don't like Judas very much....but i do an exception now. This post has been edited by bertox on 10-03-2008, 08:11 |

bertox Topic Link: Judas Priest - 1976 - Sad Wings of Destiny Topic Link: Judas Priest - The Best Of (1978) this one is considered referenced recording for audio testing: http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=3583 Topic Link: Pepe Romero also, some info/discussion here: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=125285 off-topic Generally, if the original CD was a flat transfer, and the recording quality was not poor(!) at the beginning (i.e "Layla", "Brothers in Arms"), then I'd prefer it. Now there are exceptions, off course. For example, recent remasters of ELP from Shout Factory were mostly excellent. Most, if not all, of Steve Hoffman/Barry Diament mastering sounds great, since they had access to master tapes. Remasters usually contain bonus tracks, unreleased material, demos, new artwork, etc. And we know how japanese are passionate about art . Now, XRCD and K2HD, afaik are the same term, except "XRCD/XRCD2" is used in US, "K2HD" in Japan. The technology is the same. And you can google and read up on it (a very interesting process btw). New Jazz/Classical/Audiophile/Vocal titles get released quite often using that technology, they are excellent sounding CDs(!), I constantly see them popping up in audiophile discussions/magazines/newsletters As far as old titles and re-masters, it is really a hit-and-miss. You cant say for sure, that they sound worse, until you actually hear them and do some a/b comparisons. As far as Japanese CDs go, we often really have no idea where the sources are coming from. They very likely could have used safety copies/original masters/virgin vinyl. Yes, Japanese sometimes tweak the eq, compress the CD a little, especially on MiniLP re-issues, 20bitK2, Polydor/UICY re-issues. But early japanese press CDs have different sound, in many cases = first pressing ever came on CD (flat transfer) Anyway, I am going off-tangent here |

well...you are a good person.. I'm just saying that the sound never be compressed in natural live state...and i like this state... and i'm talking in general...but..you say that...there are some exceptions around threre..but, again, in general the historic tendency is to be worse mastering when the years going up.. ...i think that i 'living in the past' in some way, but i see that i be an consequent person too...and ever try to don't goes into the involutive socio-cultural present... well... Downloading... btw..i think that i should download another 'old' disc release, cause' i don't find 'old' cd 'Sad Wings of Destiny' in nowhere to compare...what disc you recommend for this comparing? p.s: what is the best Black Sabbath CD release sounding for you (2007, 2004, 2001, 1996,....?? |
