FUgG Biography: Fugg formed in 1995 out of four individuals playing in fuzzy South Coast bands of the latter 1980s to early 1990s based in and around Wollongong. Early Fugg songs were short, fast, and loud......and exploring such diverse topics as dubious nightspots, shared accomodation, Catholic education and its afteraffects, social politics, masturbation, ahem...erections, as well as cars, and all the other stuff that makes up the literary content of any good one to two minute rock n roll tune. The boys gained an enthusiastic cult following strangely compelled (and propelled across the dance floor) by their hilarious live antics, genuinely bizarre stage attire and good natured irreverance for 20th century popular culture. On any one night , scattered thorughout their huge repertoire of originals, one might encounter horrific covers by such diverse luminaries as THE GO GOs, DEPECHE MODE, THE BEACH BOYS, CAMEO, THE RAMONES, A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS, VELVET UNDERGROUND, INXS, MEN AT WORK, KATE BUSH, MUDHONEY or SUZI QUATTRO. Although each member has his own individual musical inclinations and influences. Fugg performed regularly in pubs, clubs, universities, and festivals as well as more unorthodox venues along the east coast from Brisbane to Lorne with the likes of FRENZAL RHOMB, TUMBLEWEED, SOMETHING FOR KATE, CUSTARD, THE MEANIES, SPIDERBAIT, THE SPAZZYS, MINK JAGUAR and more recently MENTAL AS ANYTHING. A hit of sorts, Distortion Saved My Teenage Arse was lifted from the Fugg Drucked EP of 1997, likewise Pale Edwards from 1998s Altar Ego. Both songs received TRIPLE J airplay and a 3-4am timeslot on rage ( yeah I missed it too...). In 1999 the original guitarist/co-songwriter Adam Buckland left the band tp pursue a solo career (The Dodgy World, Sweet Sweet Bulbs, Buckland Family Choir - Fantastic!), he was replaced by keyboardist, the erstwhile PETER CONRAN and a new guitarist, the jazzy and generally introverted NOAH HAMPSON which took the band in somewhat new directions with a fresher and more sophisticated edge, gradually crystallising in into the mature Fugg sound as many know it today. The band signed to the generally stoner rock inclined HIGHBEAM MUSIC in 2000 and released its first full length album ART BRUT in early 2001. By chance, a lively Thursday night gig at an inner city pub in Sydney in 2002 proved fortuitous when members of the iconic Australian group MENTAL AS ANYTHING were enjoying a few drinks and pricked up their ears during Fuggs performance. Through a few meetings and phone calls they expressed interest in recording the band, the fruits of which can be heard on the new album NO LEFT TURN UNSTONED and its accompanying single CHEAP SET OF WHEELS released in August 2004. In 2004, original drummer, Nathan Clarke left the band for the sunny pastures of Richie & The Creeps. He was replaced by the easygoing, jocular, model/pych-student girlfriended SHANE JEROME who has who has brought a new relaxed yet infectious enthusiasm to the band. July 2006 will see Fugg set to support YOU AM I which we are (and particularly Shane) all excited about. We are likewise set to record an EP in June. The songwriting has matured, developed, become more expansive and multi-dimensional though the basic blueprint is the same. The songs are clever, funny, groovy, goofy and infectious. The original party band concept remains and Fugg are still a spontaneous, humourous, relaxed, and genuine crowd pleaser. When a band members mother was queried about the sticker on her car Whats a Fugg?, she replied, Its something that makes you drink beer and dance. Band Members: JEROEN VAN DYK- Vocals, Bass GRANT BARKLEY- Guitar, Vocals NOAH HAMPSON- Guitar PETE CONRAN- Keyboards, Vocals SHANE JEROME- Drums.
