The group of folk singers "Saucējas" at the Latvian Academy of Culture began with a wish to sing and a craving for the true sound. In 2003, Iveta and Aija met to share this craving. They listened to what the Russian girls from Iljinskaja pjatnica (Russian: Ильинская пятница) were singing, then listened to what Latgalian ladies were singing, and then got down to business. Little by little others have joined, and thus the group began. From the very start, at the heart of "Saucējas" singing was the desire to master a traditional singing manner and sound creation particular to the corresponding region by way of singing together with folk singers and imitating ethnographic records. Saucējas gave their first concert at the Centre of Folk Art in 2004. During these years, the band has been learning and performing a lot. Their creative work has been a success. For example, the band won the prize at the Music Records of the Year in 2012 for their album "Dziediet, meitas, vokorā" (Sing ye, girls, in the evening) which was recognised as the best folk music album. Currently the group has eight singers: Marianna Auliciema, Kristīne Jansone, Indra Mētra, Zane Pērkone, Signe Pujāte, Vineta Romāne, Iveta Tāle (the supervisor of the band), and Vija Veinberga.
