Dissidenten - Instinctive Traveler

user posted image

The German collective Dissidenten has always been a melting pot of far flung musical influences. The experiment continues with Instinctive Traveler and, not surprisingly, it is made for dancing. Most of the tunes prominently feature Bajka, the daughter of guitar player and founding member Uve Müllrich. Her expressive and powerful vocals (in English) are featured prominently in nearly all of the tunes. The majority of the CD lays down a hips-in-action groove with a dizzying array of embellishment from all corners of the globe, and a prominent R&B-ish presence. Expect Native American chanting and Indian jaw harp with sensuous vocals against a solid bed of percussion and hot acoustic guitar. Enjoy a blues jam with Hindu and Muslim singers. "Lobster Song" combines thumb piano with slide guitar and slips into an uppity techno rhythm with a smooth African backing vocal. While the mix is generally dense with instrumentation, the production sounds human, and rarely slick. If there's going to be a breakthrough tune for world music on pop radio in the U.S., it might sound like the sinuous "Live And Experience." by Richard Klecka - consciouschoice.com
