This First Set release by the Allman Brothers Band has a lot to offer the many fans of the band. The styles are very balanced as there are some acoustic performances(Mellisa, Midnight Blues) which really show a special tender side of the band. The band really shines on the opening track, End Of The Line as Greg gives an exceptionally strong vocal performance. Jamoe and Butch are exceptional throughout on drums.
Nobody Knows is a bit over long and I never cared for Dreams as it meanders a bit without focus although this version is better than the original studio recording. The record closes strong with Revival as the backbeat on this live recording just cooks to my ears. A nice collection for most fans of this band.

If you like the recent incarnations of the Allman Brothers, this disc is for you. Featuring the now past lineup with Warren and Alan, First Set captures some darn good performances by the band. The solos on Blue Sky are amazing! Melissa is done in a very nice stripped down acoustic form. The rest of the disc has a consistent high energy throughout. This is a great disc for Allman fans.
