Anyways, TUATHA DE DANANN could be called something like the Power Metal version of Irish CRUACHAN, with flutes and whistles and mandolin and all, giving the Brazilians a really own touch, which sounds fresh and cool and just great :D

The basis is Power Metal, no doubt, but that is where TUATHA DE DANANN only start, by adding those folky instruments, the folk-induced melodies, good choirs and even some growls thrown in for good measure, contrasting the excellent melodic vocals of Bruno Maia, which some might call a little bit cranky, but they give the whole thing even more character. If some will disregard them as weak or whatever, just don't listen to them!

That the song-structures are just out of the ordinary is a very big plus in my book, because they guarantee that "Tingaralatingadun" will neither grow stale quickly nor go under in the big mass of epigones in Power Metal out there, I'd even go as far as to say that they are unique, indeed! I mean, ever since I had downloaded "Behold The Horned King" from their homepage many, many months back, I had been looking for a way to get a hold of their stuff, but for some reason it never came to pass┘

Anyhow, how a Brazilian band ends up with Irish Folk in its sound is kind of beyond me, but I don't care as long as the music turns out to be so good, like songs as the brilliant "Behold The Horned King" or the long "Some Tunes To Fly" impressively show, also the folky instrumentals loosen things up very nicely.

So, for most this refreshing style mix will be "too cranky", "too crude" or just "too weird", but then stop complaining about lack of originality, would you? TUATHA DE DANANN are a really fresh breath in the genre and I really like this album, this band, check them out, you should not regret it! (Online December 18, 2002)
