The Cult: Ian Astbury (vocals, percussion); Billy Duffy (guitar); Jamie Stewart (keyboards, bass). Additional personnel: John Webster (keyboards); Mickey Curry (drums); Iggy Pop (background vocals). Recorded at Little Mountain Sound Studios, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from September to November 1988. "This is where it all ends.." what a good line to start such a great album! The Cult have produced a number of really great albums but this stands as the high water mark. It has been described as gothic/psychedelic by some and this probably makes sense. It combines the big guitar riffs of the 'Electric' album with the psychedelic tweaks of the 'Love' album and throws in full-on vocal intensity and memorable lyrics. Put simply, this is just an album of great rock anthems, with fantastic scratchy psychedelic guitar riffs. You just have to hear `Sun King', `Fire Woman', `American Horse' and the rest, to believe them. Nobody makes music in quite this way, other than The Cult. Overall, this is simply one of the best rock albums ever made. 1. Sun King 2. Fire Woman 3. American Horse 4. Edie (Ciao Baby) 5. Sweet Soul Sister 6. Soul Asylum 7. New York City 8. Automatic Blues 9. Soldier Blue 10. Wake up Time for Freedom 11. Medicine Train |
