Track Listing:
1.Raise 2.Child has gone 3.Breakdown 4.The Hermit 5.Disharmonic Dogmas 6.Cross & Crescent 7.Tearful Clown 8.Unbreakable Cordon 9.Coming Turn 10.High Hopes label: Drakkar Records / BMG Band Lineup: Gilles Thiebaut - Bass Loïc Jenn - Drums Matthieu Kleiber - Vocals Bertrand Maiillot - Keyboards Erwan Morice - Guitar I was not sure what to expect from Karelia’s new release, which due out in stores on May 30th, 2005. As I listen from track to track this is an amazing release. Vocally Matthieu Kleiber shines; Erwin Morice guitar work is outstanding, Loïc Jenn drumming is superb, Bertrand Maiillot keyboards are heavenly, and Gilles Thiebaut does an excellent job on bass. "Raise," the first track on the CD, is slow paced with choir-like background vocals. "Child Has Gone" has the feeling of NIN until the keyboards enter. This is an outstanding track. This is my first time hearing Karelia. All aspects of the music are mesmerizing. Arrangement are top notch, lyric’s are over the top. What a CD!!! "The Hermit" I felt like I was reaching the promise land. "Unbreakable Cordon" is a melodic ballad - come on... get those lighters out - FANTASTIC! There is not much I can say about "Raise" except that it is phenomenal! From track one to ten, it was a true pleasure to listen to. If you’re a Power Metal / Symphonic Metal fan, make this CD a priority. The future looks bright for Karelia. (Rock Eyez ) KARELIA: "Raise" (Drakkar – Suburban) When singer/ guitarist Mathieu Kleiber and keyboardist/ guitarist Lionel Vest got together in 2000 to create their own personal twist on Symphonic Power Metal, they soon came to the conclusion they would have to expand their 'band', and so today's quintet is today comprised of guitarist Erwan Morice, bassist Gilles Thiebault, drummer Loic Jenn, and keyboardist Bertrand Maillot (Vest, concentrating on other ventures, now only helps the band out in the studio). This cooperation already saw their debut album "Usual Tragedy" released (Drakkar, Feb. 2004) and are now back with the follow-up! Now, I regret to say I never heard that debut, which is a pity, because what I hear on thís album is really worth while! Enough history, now let's talk shop...or rather music! Euhm...'Symphonic Power Metal' may have been a somewhat easy but constricted way to describe this Elzasser (France) band, for there's quite a bit of layering going on, both in the music itself, as in the vocals. As backing vocals, they often use 'choral' singing, which enhances the Symphonic feel generated by the keyboards. Then there's also an alternating neo-classical interaction between those same keyboards and the guitar (which plays heavy riffs in between), and some Progressive touches as well! Still, everything is embedded in unworldly beautiful and harmonic melodies. Obviously, this quintet puts time in composing their songs, which also have a complex lyrical content, so tell me the bio on the label's website. Here and there, we find samples beautifully illustrating the lyrical background (just to give an example on the band's intelligent approach of lyrics, check out the title track, which deal on World War II...it's got some creepy samples taken from a couple of speeches by a certain Adolf H.). If you've already heard the first album, you should know that the music has apparently changed somewhat. There is now only a few faster paced parts and songs, and with the majority of the songs on a mid-paced level, this makes for a very varied album that will keep listeners interested from start 'till finish! The 10-track album is finished with a heavy cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" (off the "The Division Bell" album), and I won't say anything about that either, never having heard the original! Nice album, but take your time to listen carefully when giving this album a trial spin at the record store, will you? I cannot help wondering how the hell on earth they're ever gonna perform this music on stage without samplers or computers! 91/100 Tony |

Ура! Скачал! Вкусно! Похожи на смесь Dream Theater и Arena. Только менее техничны первых и менее астральны вторых. Но мне все равно понравилось. sanbo, спасибо. |
