Although not as techno-'tronik' as the group's moniker might have youexpecting, Inner Flight is indeed a forward-thinking take on jazz. For while the sounds are all organic rootsy, rhodesy grooves layered withlive instrumentation and percussion sounds, the style is pure cutting edgedancefloor jazz. A smooth hybrid of traditional instrumentation and modernbeat programming, it seems fitting that Jazztronik comes from Japan, whereBlue Note-obsessed kids are raised in the cities of the future. With asmoother sound than contemporaries like Compost's Kyoto Jazz Massive, but noless noodly or expertly played, Jazztronik offers an accessible update onjazz for the new millennium.
