Song listing: 1. Oblivion 2. Pitch Black 3. Distant Light 4. Time 5. When Dream And Fate Collide 6. Facing Destiny 7. Fire And Steel 8. The Wicked Is Born 9. Dimension For The Week label:Scarlet Records Frequency was formed in 2002 by Linus Wikström (guitars), Daniel Hannedahl (drums) and Tobias Birgersson (guitars), guys who used to play in a death metal band called Lothorien and the power metal band Melodrama. Later they got completed by vocalist Glenn Laurén and bassist Mats Halldin. With this line up the band the band started to play more the kind of classic heavy metal music but with influences coming from classical music and progressive rock. With all these influences, four instrumentalists who know their business and a very good strong vocalist we have the band Frequency as they now present them themselves on their debut 'When Dream And Fate Collide'. They define their music as being suitable for fans of bands like Helloween, Edguy and Masterplan. I like to add that there is also a pinch of old Bay Area thrash to perceive. Especially the guitar-riffs and the strong rhythm of the bass and drums are making me say that. I am sure these boys are to young to have influences from that era or maybe they have older brothers with albums from that time? Anyway, there are nine very good tracks on their own debut; they all keep me close to my speakers. There are times when I listen when I have to skip back to passages that just happened because there were some intelligent mood and speed changes that caught my attention. Listen to song number three called 'Distant Light', right after the guitar-solo and you will hear some interesting changes in riffs going from the left speaker to the right one and then hitting you through the whole system. That's an amazing piece, man! One other highlight is 'Time' a song that is reminding me a lot of a mix between other great bands like At Vance and Narnia. And so I can mention all of the nine tracks, every single one of them really blows out of your speakers as hell. I just love what you did guys, I can't wait for a second album by you. |
