Things haven't been exactly easy for Zandelle. The New Yorkers had scored a deal with Limb Music, released the album 'Twilight Of Humanity', played with masters like Fates Warning, Savatage and U.D.O. and were ready for a breakthrough when drummer Bob Demini decided to leave the band. A new drummer was found in Joe Cardillo, but due to health problems he couldn't function for a long time. However, his band mates waited for him to recover, but in the meantime the second guitar player T.W. Durfy also departed.

Fortunately the band didn't get discouraged by these obstacles and made a strong return with 'Vengeance Rising'. The traditional US heavy metal that George Tsalikis (ex-Gothic Knights) and his band play on this album may not be original or renewing, but Zandelle brings it with so much power and enthusiasm that it leaves no room for discussion. From the opening track 'Blood Red Shores' on the band makes a statement and shows what they stand for: honest heavy metal in the traditional eighties style with Dokken, Helstar, Grim Reaper (anyone remember that?) and Iron Maiden as main ingredient. And although the fast, yet melodic approach sounds as if it's straight from the eighties, the songs sound rather up-to-date at the same time. I must admit that the songs are quite similar, which makes them hard to be recognizable. Tsalikis is also limited in his ability and the CD is a bit too long to be able to keep your attention. But the musical expertise and the enthusiasm that Zandelle treats us with during these eleven songs, makes 'Vengeance Rising' a pleasant album to hear.

Fans of fast, melodic and old-fashioned heavy metal, but also the ones who enjoy bands like Blind Guardian and Hammerfall, would surely appreciate this CD. A lovely and not to forget, honest heavy metal album.
