thanks to my friends JOHANN SPETH was born in 1664 in Speinshart, Upper Palatinate, Germany (about 150 miles north-east of Nuremberg), where he studied music at the choir school of the local abbey. He was appointed cathedral organist in Augsburg in 1692, and is presumed to have died there sometime after 1719. His Ars magna consoni et dissoni was published in Augsburg in 1693. Dedicated to Count Anton Joseph Fugger and his family, it contains ten toccatas for organ, eight Magnificat settings, and the three sets of variations presented here. CD1
