ProGGnosis REVIEW
What is surprising is the maturity already reached by this young Italian band, whose members have a strong background as classical musicians. They show different influences from the main classic progressive UK bands and are working eagerly to create their own unique style. Love Hate Round Trip is very different from their debut album, which got a great acclaim (also here on Proggnosis). But this album is even better, because it's more mature: the band managed to mix all their influences in a cocktail which is more original. While the debut album was closer to the typical Italian progressive album (very symphonic and melodic) and so more derivative, this new one is more complex and daring. It's not so accessible as their debut, while still feauturing a lot of melodies which will please lovers of the symphonic subgenre of progressive rock. A few songs are very catchy (they linger in your head for hours) and at the same time they show a great technical prowess. It's hard to reach such a balance. Different from their debut album, the influences here are more clearly the dark progressive rock from '60 an '70. King Crimson, Van Der Graaf, Jethro Tull, all these bands come in mind and even others, but none in particular (this adds to the originality of the band). A special mention is due to Michele Epifani, the band leader, voice and keyboads. My personal opinion is that he is the best Italian progressive rock singer nowadays. He is also the author of the english lyrics, which are dark and desperate, and add a poetic feel to this concept album. Areknames confirm their place in a virtual top ten made of Italian progressive rock bands.

The final decisions were taken by the Jury on the 18th December 2006. Areknames was the winner of Best Italian Record, in front of Fonderia and Gecko's Tear. Check all the winners from the ProgAwards website
