German band Paragon have just released their 8th album, "Forgotten Prophecies", and although I hadn't heard of this band before, I have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised.
This band, formed in 1990, have recorded an excellent album full of vintage sounding heavy metal, at times even bordering on typical 80’s trash metal and I for one still adore this kind of music.
There is nothing wrong with songs influenced by Overkill, Metal Church, Testament, Manowar and so on and when it is presented with the relentless attitude shown here. Therefore I can only say this is recommended stuff for all those stuck in the 80’s metal scene. Just in case I forget to do it myself will someone please remind me to check out the back catalogue of these fine gentlemen...
Highlights are the fast & furious opening song ‘Hammer Of The Gods’, the vicious pumping title song with nifty intro ‘Revelations’(Am I evil, anyone?) & the cover of the Overkill song ‘Deny The Cross’.
This CD is also available as a limited CD-DVD package. The DVD contains 10 songs recorded live at the Metal Bash 2005 & Roadkill Tour 2005. but since it wasn’t included with my promo copy of the CD I can’t comment on it. (KVK)
